Waiting on a decision....

It's another one of those items on the 'must do in 2016' list. After sorting a website - and getting a bit of lighting to paint by in the winter gloom - the third item on the list is to get a painting into one of the exhibitions at The Mall Galleries in London. http://www.mallgalleries.org.uk

The Mall Galleries have a fine selection of rooms and they have a good few opportunities to get involved across a year. This portrait is awaiting a decision - I'm expecting to hear at the weekend whether or not we've made it through pre-selection. Fingers crossed then! Ice Cream Boy is 30x30cm, Oils.

Nice one Phil. The pose is very endearing, along with the colours, set off by a fabulous coloured background which really enhances the whole thing. A great choice of colour. A young Zak?

Mall Galleries eh? My, you are aiming high, but then if you want to reap the benefits then you have to go for it. I wish you well for it, crutches crossed it gets through.

Regards,
Pabs

HI Pabs - sorry for not getting back to you sooner, that's been a busy couple of weeks there!

Well - no - it didn't get in, sadly. Having said that, I know of two artists from around here that DID get in and they're both masters of their craft and not a part-timer like me....

Next up for me is an all-day workshop in Hornsea that I'm leading in a couple of weeks time. I'm sketching a lot - but not painting as much as I should. What about you?

Hi Phil

Shame about the Mall, I do feel sorry for you as I know you would have genuinely appreciated being there. Treat the locals instead I say!

I don't enter exhibitions like that as I don't think it's right that someone else (however independent) judges your work to see if it's fit enough for them to display - & charge you for the privilege. Surely it is up to the public to judge if your work is good enough or not, yet these people deny that from happening. My view - rant over.

What have I been doing? Well, trying my best to help run the Goole group, & seeing as we have now doubled our membership since I joined (though that is purely coincidental I hasten to add), then we must be doing something right. Recently we had the Hobbies Exhibition where we sold several works, including one from me of a blue budgie, but the real highlight was of 2 of our members selling their first ever works! One was a young lady, the other an elderly lady who has been paiting for years. The look on both their faces was worth it all.

Apart from that, you may remmeber I wrote a very short kid's story a few years back, & now thought it would be a good idea to have a go & illustrate it myself, so that has begun. Another member asked if I would illustrate some short poems of hers, so I worked on that. Then the characters I worked on my own story sort of developed & I now work on cartoons which I watercolour in. Basically they consist of headlines on papers, scrolls, parchment etc through history which the characters are reading. Some political, some silly, some current, but I enjoy it which is what the main thing is.

Well, you did ask ...........
